We can ride any tire we want, and we ride the tubed version of the Michelin Power Cup.
Why?
Price: While we very much care about performance, price is important, and it is nice to save ~$25 per tire compared to Continental, Pirelli, and Vittoria. With an MSRP of $71.99, the Michelin is the clear value leader.
Performance:
- Advertised weight is 215g (25mm) and is on par with all others, so there is no weight penalty.
- For a 25mm tire, the rolling resistance is 13.2w @ 80psi. This is 1.1w higher (per tire) than the Continental 5000s. We are willing to give up 2 watts when we save $50 on a set of tires.
- Puncture resistance is 50 on the tread and 11 on the sidewall, which is as good or better than the Continental 5000s and better than the Vittoria Corsa Pro. We do NOT like standing on the side of the road fixing flat tires!
- Wet grip is best in class, and while we don't always ride in the rain, when we get caught in it, we want to know that we are on tires that will help us get to where we are going with confidence.

No, it doesn't come in a 30mm right now, but our 28mm measures 30.4mm when mounted on a 25mm internal rim.
We have asked Michelin to make a 30mm version of this tire, which we expect will measure over 32mm when mounted. Stay tuned!
Why do we run tubed tires with high-quality TPU tubes (instead of tubeless) in Greenville, SC? The answer is that we don't get that many flats. Tubed tires are cheaper, and they eliminate refreshing sealant every 4-6months and the mess if the sealant doesn't do its job on the side of the road. We are willing ot give up ~1w/tire for this.
Race-Derived Speed & Low Rolling Resistance
Designed with MotoGP-inspired technology for exceptional rolling efficiency — this tire is tuned to help you maintain pace and momentum on every ride. Independent testing shows the Power Cup clincher offers among the lowest rolling resistance in its class, making it an excellent choice for road racers and performance riders alike.
Clincher Tire With Tube Compatible Setup
This traditional clincher design works seamlessly with inner tubes — ideal for riders who prefer simple setup and maintenance, and those running classic rim setups. Its folding bead adds convenience and helps keep weight down.
Durable Construction With Aramid Protection
Built with a 3×120 TPI casing and Aramid Shield or Aramid Protek technology, the Power Cup offers confident puncture resistance without sacrificing responsiveness or ride feel.
Balanced Grip and Control
Michelin’s GUM-X rubber compound provides excellent traction in both dry and wet conditions, ensuring sure-footed handling through corners and quick reactions under acceleration or braking.
Ideal for: road racers, performance cyclists, training rides, and anyone looking for a responsive, confident clincher tire with excellent rolling characteristics.
