The Pirelli P ZERO Race TLR SL-R is the flagship race tire in the P ZERO lineup, developed specifically for riders chasing maximum speed, low rolling resistance, and aerodynamic efficiency. Designed with direct input from WorldTour teams including Lidl-Trek and Alpecin-Deceuninck, the SL-R combines ultra-fast rolling performance with advanced aerodynamics and surprisingly strong grip in both dry and wet conditions.
At the center of the tire is Pirelli’s new PAAS (Pirelli Advanced Aerodynamic System) technology. Unlike traditional road tires, the SL-R is shaped to optimize airflow interaction between the tire and rim, smoothing airflow and improving the wheel’s “sailing effect” in crosswinds. Pirelli claims the system can save an average of up to 5 watts, with peaks approaching 15 watts in ideal aerodynamic conditions.
The tire also introduces the new LiteCORE casing, Pirelli’s lightest and fastest tubeless-ready construction to date. The casing is designed to reduce rolling resistance while maintaining ride comfort and handling precision. Combined with the updated SmartEVO² compound, the SL-R delivers exceptional cornering grip and road feel while remaining extremely efficient at race speeds.
Unlike some pure TT tires, the SL-R is intended to remain practical enough for aggressive road racing and fast everyday riding. Lab and community testing suggest it offers rolling resistance competitive with — and in some cases faster than — the Continental GP5000 S TR while still maintaining good puncture protection and wet grip.
